Welcome to Pianoforte Music Studio!

Hi, I am Nancy Cole and I am so happy you have come to my website.  I hope you enjoy your visit. It is so exciting to be opening my studio in the Mt. Juliet, Old Hickory, Lebanon area.  

I began taking piano lessons at age 8 and had private lessons until age 18. My first private teacher was a student at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, Maryland.  In college, I studied with Dr. Peggy Dougherty, a concert level pianist who has played with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Later I studied with Dr. George Perkins, head of the Music Department at Eastern Montana College, now Montana State University.  Each of these instructors added greatly to my piano education. George, the student at Peabody, was strict in my learning but also made lessons so fun.  Dr. Dougherty's belief in me and her professionalism enhanced my skill and professionalism.  The focus of Dr. Perkins was on technical skill which made me play with greater accuracy.  All these fine instructors have impacted my teaching.  

I have been teaching piano for over 30 years and have been a church musician for 40 years. 

Recently I earned a certificate of Piano Pedagogy from Valley City State University in North Dakota.

I love seeing students of all ages discover their ability to enrich their lives with music.  My goal is to provide a comprehensive music education for you or your student, encouraging each student to express their musical interests.  We have fun learning to play, as well as music theory, improvisation, and composition.  I also use technology to enhance learning with games and programs on the iPad.  It is my joy to watch my student's eyes light up and the smile that comes from realizing they can play something they once thought too difficult.

My students are given opportunity to play for others if they choose to participate in festivals and recitals.  I will provide a recital experience each year and will provide information about other opportunities in the area.
